The three day annual ‘Urs’ (Birthday Anniversary) of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan began at Taj Mahal in Agra on 10th of March (Wednesday)
As part of the ritual, the original graves of the royal couple, located deep down in the monument, will be thrown open for public viewing and entry to the monument shall be free for all.
It is only during the annual Urs that tourists can get to see the original graves. For the rest of the year, the replicas of the graves are open for public viewing. Every year Khuddam-e-roza (traditional caretakers of the Taj) committee offers a very long multi-colour chadar, representing different faiths of the country, on the grave of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan during Urs.
Normally, the Taj Mahal is closed on Friday. But this time it will remain open during the Urs.
